Anime Key To World Peace Campaign

Tis the Season to be jolly, but Christmas doesn't eradicate the horrors of the world. That is why there are so many organisations pulling resources and donation together to help keep children off the street., feed the hungry stop people from freezing to death and that's just in the UK Abroad we have war, starvation, abuse, slave labour and how ever many more I can't count on both my hands. We have a nice organisation that will actively try to to use Anime as a key to world peace.
Anime Key To World Peace Campaign
This campaign has one goal, use the influence that anime has all over the world to bring people in every country together. Their thoughts is that if people can find thing in common with anime they can start putting their difference aside little by little and become friends.
This all came about when Founder Scott Young accidentally friend requested the wrong person while looking for Chelly from Supercell band and instead addedt a girl from Equador who was a fan of Supercell and had a fan profile.  That got him thinking what if we could bring people together around the world. This little mistake  turned out to be a bigger project and he is still good friends with the girl too.
After consulting a few friends: Tyler, Chris, Sorro, and Ryan they thought what if we could start a page with anime fans to come together around the world and share their views and learn from each other and make friendships through it. So far that has been working well we have over 500 members in first 10 days and Tyler got the idea of holding a winter anime picture event who ever can have the best winter anime pic wins an admin spot.
Although we know its not an easy task and a lot of people will be doubtful that it will work. But if we can bring enough people together from this generation we can do it. As one day our generation will take over, and when that happens this page will be our greatest accomplishment to unite the world.
The group promotes itself to other anime dedicated websites and ask's every member in group to do as much posting as possible because you can't get stuff in common with people if you post anything. And the second thing Leader Scott Young ask's of them is anyone they know invite them to page and ask them to do same thing. So that everyone comes together. As well as trying to get hold of local tv stations to put it put there so everyone locally can do same thing as well.
This is a nice community, so that people who have no one to turn to can look to for distraction or solace in friends and anime. I myself turn to a few favourites to lift my mood when work is unbearable or when people shove you on a train to get to the last available seat. It's a notion that hopefully can promote peace and happiness in an otherwise cold world.
Some of the members comments on the group -
"I'm from the Anime Key To World Peace Campaign. The simplest way for me to put this is that I've always been bothered by people who choose violence when there could be a peaceful solution. I also believe that we may have found a peaceful common ground between people. And that as time passes hopefully we'll become even more well known." Christopher Craig
"I must say I enjoy being in this group. For once people actually like my posts. I haven't seen any life changing animes but people have suggested some funny ones." Tyler Dehoff
"This group allows me to take a different approach to anime. Bringing peace isn't a bad idea or a false step for this group. I have to say that any anime can be life changing, depends on how that person takes it." Sorro Santo

Baitfighter at Playnation Games

Since we last visited the fresh new look of M&M Games, Playnation Games have been busting a move with lots of events. Utilising their 2nd floor as the Games room, you can pay £2,50 to play retro games all evening or enter Card game tourneys or play casuals, streetpass whatever your heart desires.

If there are events going on for £2.50 you get the opportunity to share your passion for games in a big community. Their latest collaboration features youtube sensation Baitstaition for Baitfighter at Playnation Games. The lads behind this challenge gamers to instant knock out leaving with their dignity in tact or with bragging rights over all.

Upon arriving around 7.15pm all the tournament spaces had been filled already, I could hear a cheering crowd from upstairs, this event had attracted lots of the local gamers to try their skills against the hyped up Bait-fighters.

Confirmed games included:

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade edition (XBox 360)
Street Fighter: The movie (playing on XBox)
Mortal Kombat 3: SNES
Super Smash Bros. (GC or N64 tbc)
Street of Rage 2 - vs. and co-op (Megadrive)
WWF Smackdown 2 (PSX)
WWF No Mercy (N64)

They also had Street Fighter X Tekken, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and 3, 3rd Strike (online edition) and BlazBlue:CF for play after the main tournament, plus any other games Playnation could magic up.

You were welcome to bring your own sticks/Pads, there will be a couple floating around for use, but if you don't bring your own, you get what you're given and no moaning about equipment, if you lose take it like a man. A gallery for Perfected losers was made so everyone could have their time to shine and everyone had a  lot of fun.

Not being a Streetfighter fan I enjoyed my luck at Soul Caliber on Dreamcast, and who is my challenger? Non other than Foolish Overloard aka Tom from Anime Picks. He put up a good fight but no one could defeat my Xianghua and Lizard man team.

Video Review: Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness

My casual Fuka Cosplay

I'm pleased to announce the doods from my previous IGN pub quiz article, see their mug shot here.
Josiah, Cheryl, Arfaaaaaaaan and a few more cool peeps are working on a games website, well I say 'working on' Josiah is the mastermind behind building the site, the rest of us contribute. It's nice we can all bounce off ideas of each other and one member is even Australia. Here's my first game review off my favourite Japanese role playing game series Disgaea <3 p="">
In Parallax Play 's debut video review, Aisha Anime (aka me) checks out Disgaea D2 for PS3 from NIS America, Inc. Doooood! I like the series so much I even cosplayed as Fuka the protagonist from Disgaea 4 :D

Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-bit Land Review

Regular Show is an American animated television series created following the lines of Adventure Time. Created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network which premiered September 6, 2010, the series revolves around the lives of two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby who are introduced at the beginning of the game.

You have 16 levels of  head banging 2D platforming to look forward to in Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-bit Land, it is that frustrating. With the famous Super Mario Bros. platforming games you enjoy a simple story line, not forgetting the goombas. Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-bit Land on the over hand is seriously, frustratingly hair pulling difficult with no quirky commentary which was lacking from this game.

To go into detail about how hard the game is, there were multiple instances where I was killed by an off-screen enemy (glitch?) or narrowly missed a jump that looked reachable. You are then left feeling deceived and having to plan different strategies then to make the jump rather than jumping. There’s a difference between a good challenge, and difficulty for difficulty’s sake. Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-bit Land feels like a troll game with everything put in to enrage you. Great to motivate you to take up the sport of boxing.

Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-bit Land follows typical gameboy retro platform games. However, following the times, this isn’t nostalgic, it is almost a copy of Mario Bros. You jump on snails to continue and collect dollar bills with the addition of switching characters. If you switch characters you then have increased skills. For example, Mordecai is taller so has better jumping ability and reach, whereas Rigby is small but fast, so more likely to dodge enemies and crawls through tight spaces.

Both are needed to fully explore each area of 8-Bit Land. Levels themselves are all fairly large, so there’s a decent amount of exploration involved. The backgrounds are nicely drawn with great colours and graphics for a 2D game.

Three gold VHS tapes are hidden about in each stage, giving you the momentum to look around as you can back track on levels. There’s a timer too, and finishing levels in a speedy manner gets you bonuses. The timer is a catch 22 as you try to speed through the game which means instant death, you have to time your jumps and take a slow pace to survive and keep your sanity.

However, avid Regular Show fans will find plenty to like here. They have incorporated some of the amusing characters from the show as big bosses. Two notable ones are the Flock of Geese and the Destroyer of Worlds.

The story though is not apparent, they literally get sent a game, flip a coin to see who plays first. The story fits in with the lazy character personas from the show. A narrative and voice over-style game from the great star cast from the show would have been better fitting, coupled with this an RPG-style game would work much better with the original series. These points won’t deter loyal fans and anyone who likes to torture themselves with exceedingly hard games.

London MCM Expo 2013: The Highs and Lows

Tara Platt, Yuri Lowenthall voice actors XD

(Originally this article was written for Anime Picks.)London MCM Expo 2013 really out did themselves as an expo for providing great anime guests this year including:
  • Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Hal)
  • Ryo Mito (Saint Seiya Brave Soldiers)
  • Kunio Hashimoto (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z)
  • Hideo Baba (Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Tales of Xillia 2)
  • Hiroshi Matsuyama (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle)
  • Troy Baker (Voice actor, Joker, Bioshock, Last of us, Trinity Blood, Tekken, Tales of Vesperia)
  • Richard Craig Smith (Voice actor, Bruce Wayne, Assasin’s Creed, Tekken, Tales of Vesperia)
  • Yuri Lowenthall ( Voice actor, Naruto, Obscure)
  • Tara Platt (Voice actor, Tekken, Naruto, Obscure)
  • Ellyn Stern ( Bleach, Patlobar, Ghost in the Shell)

One of the main highlights of the convention was the attendance of the creators of Attack on Titan, Wit Studio. We managed to get hold of the very busy guys to talk to them about the series, some changes, the music and their new anime Hal. Listen/watch our inteview with Wit Studio here.

Wit Studio
As much as everyone is willing to queue hours to meet their idols, it didn’t end well for everyone sadly. Unless you followed specific people on Twitter, aka Yuri and Tara who posted their signing schedules for everyone to come see them. It became a mission to find the stall to queue, or if you needed to get a wristband and timings. This is something companies need to liaise with MCM about so that MCM have a schedule to release to customers. These changes need to be made known before or on the day. We had many reports coming in of attendees missing their chance to meet certain guests including Wit Studio. The chances of this Japanese team returning is unpredictable.

My highlight was participating in the League of Legends UK cosplay meet, it was an experience I enjoyed through finding the ‘Fringe’ section on the London MCM Expo 2013 site. This page is a must for cosplayers, it has a list of all cosplay meets on all three days with locations, times and even links to Facebook groups. Especially since we have so many cosplayers attending the Eurocosplay awards that we need somewhere universal for people to connect through. Then the official Konami Cosplay competition where Konami sought out cosplayers to cosplay as Konami characters. A lot of Snakes surfaced with a Raiden, Female Dracula and myself as a retro character, Viki from Suikoden.
Check out the great photos taken by the Konami Uk team photographer Ace: http://www.konami.co.uk/mcm-expo-gallery-day-1
The lows were seeing the poor organisation of staff. Sadly there were reports of bad behaviour towards people in wheelchairs, no facilities or allowances were made to make them comfortable. Being in crutches and fighting my way through thick crowds of cosplayers, I can relate. Luckily the attendees were polite and understanding but looking at the MCM group from the amount of complaints shows the lack of training with London MCM Expo 2013 staff/volunteers.

Yugioh life size playing board
What added further insult to injury was if you were at the wrong place at the wrong time, dockland staff were confiscating cosplay weapons. With no justification cosplay weapons or props were taken away and destroyed. This is alarming, as London MCM Expo is known for cosplay, and staff around the area should come to recognise this. However precious works of art and hard labour were taken away and destroyed un rightfully. Please comment us with any updates on this controversial issues.
Our favourite stalls this time round include:

Podcast went Visual

Alex, myself and Orun

The podcast I've been hosting since April has now reached 33 episodes and to mark this 33rd one we went visual. Yeah we're blank voices no more we're loud and proud at the Playnation Games studio ^_^ Well it's the games room but we turn it into a makeshift studio !

Weirdly enough for podcasts the sell by date is by episode 15, we've doubled it and changed platforms, I don't know if that's good or bad. One of my friends said he listens as a podcast is convenient for him to download to his ipod and then listen to on his journey to work so he may stop listening when we go video
-_-

What does one do? We'll we recorded a mini teaser video taster and hopefully the listeners approve? Check it out for yourselves, please feel free to send suggestions on how to improve it!

Ai My Maid Fro-Yo Party

What makes Ai My Maid different is their traditional Japanese take on this concept. Of course the original concept is from Japan but the outfits and activities differ greatly. They also had pop up cafes at London Anime Con and London Film and Comic Con this year, but this is their first official event.

From the decor the team had transformed the busy and modern Tutti Fruitti venue to a Japanese Pokemon centre, there were Pokemon cards stuck to the walls amongst the talismans of the shrine maidens to ward away evil spirits. A Shide is a zigzag-shaped paper streamer, used in Shinto rituals.

Upon entering you were greeted by maids to come to the basement where Butler Kazuma explained the loyalty cards and the task of winning Pokemon badges from each Butler or maid to win prizes and to give you your raffle ticket and free Pokemon starter pack. A really nice addition for all customers who have purchased a ticket.

We were then escorted to our table and explained the ordering procedure with prices and if you wanted fro-yo then you were to help yourself upstairs. You could challenge a Butler or Maid for a game at 50p per fight and if you win collect your badge. Any games between customers were free. This way a lot of the customers could interact with other customer as a few came by themselves for the sake of trying out something new, or you could indulge in speaking and playing with one of the maids.

The maids had no real given character, there was more emphasis on talents than character they were themselves, for example, Maid Emi was the idol of the group she would go to tables and belt out a J-pop song to her customers. Maid Mei with the surreal white hair and cute moving neko ears was offering tarrot card reading with Cardcaptor Sakura clow cards, this was really skilful and entertaining. All of them liked to play games but each specific maid donned the consoles, Maid Ruri was happy to play Jenga or Smash bros. But Maid Mayumi would much rather play connect 4 but all would play any game requested. The Butlers also participated, sadly Butler Kohei bested me in a a couple of matches at Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Also in honour of The Pokemon X &Y release that day they raffled the games at all three slots so all attendees could win it at random. If you also filled your Pokemon card you would receive a free chekkie (Japanese Polaroid photo with all the Maids and Butlers with customisation). If you are a competitive gamer this was not a hard challenge for you.

The audience ratio was an even mix of male to female attendees and everyone came for different reasons. Also the game selection really appealed to the crowd. The addition of talents meant people could leave with keepsakes such as a personalised drawing by the Maids.

First Impressions: Diabolik Lovers

In Diabolik Lovers the heroine, Komori Yui, has always been an ordinary high school student who has been able to maintain a positive outlook on life. In her second year of high school, Yui's father, a priest, moves somewhere else due to work, or so we are told. Yui is forced by these events to move to a new town and a night school for the wealthy and famous. Furthermore, the house she must stay in is called 'the haunted house' by everyone else, and Yui is suddenly living with six brothers who aren't exactly human.

The first episode outs Yui at the doorstep of this lavish mansion, no one seems to know the details of her staying here but one of the six brothers who is very vague about it. However, in this episode we are given a lot more information about her father who isn't her biological father. More questions come to mind but before we can focus on any plot we are distracted by the devishly handsome brothers.

Unlike the majority of anti-harem anime, the guys are good looking and charming. These guys are certainly not nice in the least. Any compromise is due to them needing her to cooperate so they can feed on her.

From the first two episodes there is a lot of moe for guys and girls to enjoy. This is quite the violent anti-harem and there is a lot of dominance and submissive power struggle. As much as Yui wants to leave she is imprisoned there and is yet to know her true connection to the vampire dynasty. The animation is beautiful such attention and detail is put into each character, the hair is even two toned to look like it has been dyed.

London Film and Comic Con 2013: Top Picks

The event was originally covered for animepicks.co.uk/events which is alas no more.

Veronica Tyalor doing a Q&A
London Film and Comic Con has come round twice already this year, and is one of the smaller cons by Showmasters which specialise in television and movie stars, where you come and buy autographs and have chances to get photographs with your favourite celebrity, whether it be sci-fi, or anime.
Jokes cosplay skits, Thor is not impressed

This year the calling of cosplay was immense. Compared to past years where you wouldn’t even have enough people participating in the Cosplay Masqerade. This time round you had cosplay guests situated in the middle of the convention in a square selling prints available for photographs. The cosplay masquerade was so popular, the queue of audience left the stage and you had to arrive early to see any of it.

Me interviewing Veronica Taylor

The ultimate highlight was watching Veronica Taylor’s Q&A and being able to find out what it was like being the voice of everyone’s childhood hero Ash Ketchum from Pokemon. Watch my interview here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3nqDJr3Ly8E

Review: Disgaea D2

Disgaea is celebrating it's 10th anniversary and company Nippon Ichi Software's 20th anniversary this year with the release of it's new game Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness. Following the story of much loved Demon overlord Laharl from the first game. He carries on forcing his supremacy on all the demons of the underworld who frankly don't take him seriously.

Based several years after the first set of games, the demon crew have grown older and outfits are skimpier, but Laharl remains power hungry. Little does he know he will not win the favour of his subjects with brute force only. He is determined not to live in the shadow of his father's legacy. We begin with Flonne ranting as Laharl and Etna crash in her flowerbed, a celestial Yuie flower blooms despite not supposing to in the netherworld. The main plot revolves around this flower.

Now the rebellion gets involved, Grosso pointing the finger at Laharl for having relations with Celestia after the flowers op up at an alarming rate around the netherworld. We have new villains and with that a new demon type; Sea Angel - cute but deadly at the same time. Of course you have to fulfil certain requirements to obtain certain classes which is part of the fun.

Gameplay in Disgaea D2 remains loyal to the original Disgaea mechanics. There is however a new Monster Mounting feature that replaces Magichange from Disgaea 3 and 4. This allows humanoid characters to ride on top of a Monster allowing the humanoid character to attack on top of the monster while the monster takes damage from opponents, acting like a shield. Characters can also build relationships with each other and their compatibility is determined by a heart scale of one to five. It also affects the strength of collaboration attacks used when Monster Mounting depending of the relationship established between a humanoid character and a monster character.

The graphics are still 2D animation but you can change the camera angle now in the newly renovated Overlord castle. Instead of being confined to three rooms you have a labyrinth of place you can explore and talk to the amusing demon vassels under Laharl's command. The soundtrack is fresh but with original tracks following the original characters bringing nostalgia.

Cameo in the game include past favourites Asagi, returning from previous games. The game's trophy list also revealed that most of the Disgaea 4 cast (Valvatorez, Fenrich, Emizel and 'Vulcanus') will return, along with Axel and Petta (who actually uses Zetta from Makai Kingdom in his Book form as a weapon).

You are also given a new weapon type - a book which seems to act as a second magic based weapon and allows users to summon spirits to damage their targets. The game also features a new Demon Dojo that allows players to train the individual stats of their characters; this is great if you want to train your healer as she fights with a book, which makes her attack better.

Disgaea D2 is a beautiful sequel to the original Disgaea series with lots of great dialogues, cameos and improved graphics. Essentially the same dynamics but with new game mechanics, seamless blending of character movement on the map not just animated sprites. A great addition to the Disgaea series - it would make any JRPG fan or demon happy.

Interesting facts

  • This is the first Disgaea game to be a direct sequel in terms of plot.

  • You can change the colour of the main characters.

  • It is the second game that does not use the series' signature logo.

  • It is also the first Disgaea game without an "Ultimate Class" for reasons unknown

  • It is also the first game in the series where it solely uses HD sprites so the graphics have developed but kept to the original style

  • The same skull and chair have switches behind and open a hidden door.

  • American’s got DLC when pre ordering ie. Fuka, Desco: Two main characters from Disgaea 4, Overlord Zetta: The main protagonist of Makai Kingdom, Adell: The main male protagonist from Disgaea 2 and many more.

Eurogamer Expo 2013: Gaming Picks

The widely anticipated gaming convention, Eurogamer Expo 2013 had a lot of game previews to offer but let's look at the most outstanding previews that wowed the attendees at the con.

Surgeon Simulator

Surgeon Simulator 2013 is a surgical simulation game by Bossa Studios. The initial version was created in a 48-hour period for the 2013 Global Game Jam, but the developers continued and spent 48 days creating a commercial version released in January 2013. The game works with you actually operating on a realistic body. Through a first person perspective the player can attempt to perform various surgical procedures, an example of which is a heart transplant. The full version was released via Steam on 19 April 2013.

Buy it from steam for £6.99:  steamcommunity.com/app/233720

Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift is a next-generation virtual reality which you enter by putting on the headset designed for immersive gaming. Be part of history by getting your own Oculus Rift development kit. This can be just the headset or go for the full harness and platform where you feel like you in the actual game. For now movement is captured by the Xbox Connect but in the future you can use any peripherals with a camera such as a phone.

More information here: www.oculusvr.com

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Konami has completely reinvented the Castlevania series, keeping with the story and characters, while finally entering the world of 3D. Since the introduction of 3D environments the character is not playing a platform game, it has more of an RPG feel to it. The graphics are beautiful and rival that of Bayonetta and Final Fantasy. A must for Devil May Cry fans as there is a lot of hack 'n slash gore with gorgeous scenery and costumes.

See the trailer here: www.konami-castlevania.com

If My Heart Had Wings Review

If My Heart Had Wings is a tale of youth, and a tale of boys and girls who loved the sky. We follow Aoi Minase the hero, returning with shattered dreams to his wind-swept hometown of Kazegaura. There, atop a hill lined with windmills, he encounters a wheelchair-bound girl Kotori Habane, and a beautiful white glider soaring through the sky. She is a slender girl with long, black hair  but is strong willed and speaks with confidence. Also, a cry baby. Because she transferred to Keifuu Academy for the simple reason that she is unable to move her legs and Keifuu Academy is completely barrier free, she has no interests in classes which teach sspecialityfields. Because of this, she is completely cut off  from those around her. She is also followed by her pet duck, Hat.

Together, they decide to revive their school's defunct Soaring Club in order to ride the 'Morning Glory', a phantom cloud carried on the wind that blows across Kazegaura.

Playing this visual novel is almost like watching a beautiful anime, you get to enjoy relaxing music, semi animations and it is very colourful, you even get glimpses of the hero you played. Another great feature is the Japanese vocals for the other characters which isn't always included in visual novel games.

Its menus are easy to use and easy on the eye, you have the option to straight away to save, load and log off and that is always the first thing to look forward to, as visual novels have a lot of story and you wouldn't want to read through it all again, so saving at apt moments is handy. Another great feature is the 'auto' facility to automatically scroll text like your watching an anime with out continuously pressing the next button.

Unlike other visual novels which have been localised in the past, this is a brand, moe novel, which provides a way for people throughout the world to enjoy themselves. As this brand uses high quality visuals and cinematic, this is what should truly be called 'Visual Novel HD'. All works provided will be released as official localised titles.

Strangely upon looking for information about getting certain girls, I came across restorative patches to get the original Japanese version of the novel with nudity. Perverts, please back away from the game and go indulge in some hardcore hentai. This game can be therefore enjoyed by male and females without the embarrassments of looming CG's to come.

You get to know all the girls attending the Keifuu Academy and they encompass all the different stereotypes ie. large breasted, lolicon (freshman), eccentric genius, tom boy turn popular girl and so forth.

You also get to pick up a few tips on basic aerodynamics, to glider flight and building a glider. Which is crucial to the plot and emotional bond of the characters. That is something you should value, there is no random slice of life, it revolved around a hobby. The only con about the gliders were the 3D models used in the VN, they looked out of place and grotesque in comparison to the beautiful 2D animation.

If My Heart Had Wings is about romance and the sky, appreciating beautiful up to date animation, an engaging story and great voice acting and soundtrack. It is a more luxurious visual novel giving a vibrant feel.

Review: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is the fourth sequel to 2003's Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the blend of action and RPG is different but abused heavily in this game. The art style is charming, the script is funny even if the story line has gotten a little silly over the years and poor Luigi is still the butt of all the jokes. In light of the 'Year of Luigi' trend, Nintendo have really highlighted his purpose in this game, to sleep - and he does so aptly.

The game opens at the Mushroom Kingdom when Princess Peach, Mario, Luigi, Toad and Toadsworth are flown to Pi'illo Island. There, they meet Broque Monsieur and Starlow. You also meet Antasma and the bat king, who has teamed up with Bowser. They seek to acquire the Dream Stone, a powerful artefact that grants its user endless wishes. Traveling through Luigi's dreams along the way, you enter the Dream World. Here Mario meets 'Dreamy Luigi', Luigi's Dream World counterpart, who helps Mario navigate and battle the Dream World. They also encounter Prince Dreambert, the leader of the Pi'llos, who helps the heroes in their quest.

As usual with lots of backstabbing and bickering between Bowser and bat king the Dream Stone is soon destroyed by Peach and Starlow, only for its fragments to be inhaled by Bowser, who transforms into a empowered living nightmare of himself called 'Dreamy Bowser'. So yet gain Mario and Luigi must save Princess Peach and resume there holiday with the Pi'illo people.

If you had never played  Superstar Saga games, you could play this and be blown away by how unique it is. But having played everything else in the series over the past decade, it's the same as Bower's inside world but with no awareness of the past games, hence probably the lack of any point. It has the same characters, with a different background and the same story - simply with nicer graphics. We would have hoped by now you could use more complex attacks apart from jumping. Sadly this makes the fighting even more tedious, as it's long and drawn out.

The worst possible thing is to do the tutorial as it is drawn out and makes you lose all interest in the game and that is the problem. There is too much focus on 'what is an RPG?'. Players will most likely have played one so all the long explanations and sometimes pointless conversation is not needed.

It was fun using the touchscreen to manipulate Luigi, and any game that lets you flip the DS sideways and interact with just the touchscreen in fun ways, scores points as it gives your hand a chance to recover from all the button bashing to make the game go quicker.

This game holds something new for precisely NEW gamers, if your a fan of the Mario RPG series then this is just a rehash but may have been more popular if released on the Wii U. Lots of soul destroying explanations a few fun mini games and all at the expense of Luigi. Oh and Peach gets kidnapped again.

My Advice

  • Equip Wellington boots to make enemies drop beans instead of coins for easy grinding

  • Change your birthday on the DS to match the DOB items and you have some powerful equipment

  • Don't buy anything, enemies drop better items

Suikoden Revival Movement Campaign

We have featured Suikoden Revival Movement before, petitioning to Konami to release the PSP versions of Suikoden outside of Japan, and a year on still causing an uproar. They have recently announced the next phase of our campaign, OBM. Here's their promotional video about it: www.youtube.com/watch

The aim of OBM is to target Konami Japan's Headquarters with a mass mail in campaign in the hope that KCEJ will see just how much love and demand there still is for the Suikoden series. OBM hopes to show Konami Japan how important the Suikoden series still is and how much demand there is for the Suikoden series within the modern gaming market. From December 10-12 2013, fans from around the world are invited to send Konami Japan letters, fanart, cosplay pictures, sculptures and CD arrangements; anything creative that is sure to catch Konami's eye. A mass mail in campaign, on these set days is sure to make an impact and not go unnoticed at Konami Japan.

Suikoden Revival Movement Goals:

"Our main aim here is to revive the Genso Suikoden series. We aim to prove that the Suikoden fan base is still large enough, and passionate enough, for Konami not to give up on. An already peculiar and modest series, Genso Suikoden's popularity has waned in recent years. With rumours that Konami's 'Suikoden team had been disbanded', or that the whole Genso Suikoden series had been abandoned entirely, it was a surprise to many of us when Konami announced Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki at Tokyo Game Show 2011. But is this 'new direction' really what is best for the series?

While we are grateful that the Genso Suikoden series is, in fact, not dead - we aim to show Konami that it would be more profitable, and to the benefit of us all, if they continued the Suikoden series based in the same world and timeline originaly set out by Yoshitaka Murayama and in the main games I-V.

It is no secret that Konami has mishandled this series that held so much promise. But instead of telling Konami where they went wrong, we aim to work with Konami to revive the older games and the Suikoden franchise as a whole."

Here is a rough check list of what we they to achieve and what you can expect them to be pushing for in the coming months:

  • Suikoden I and II on PSN and digital distribution worldwide

  • Currently, only the North American version of the PSN has Suikoden I, while the European or PAL region lacks this title, as well as the Indian PSN. None of these PSN regional stores carry Suikoden II. Further digital distribution should include iOS, Android, Steam and XBLA.

  • Suikoden III-V on PSN and digital distribution worldwide

  • Currently, there are not too many PS2 games on the PSN. Therefore, we feel getting the PS2 Suikoden games on PSN as quickly as possible would be a great way to promote the games and give the series more exposure. It would also mean that European fans can purchase Suikoden III legally, which I'm sure both ourselves and Konami would prefer. Further digital distribution should include Steam and XBLA.

  • Localise Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki outside of Japan

  • Localise the Suikoden Manga/novels outside of Japan

  • To lobby Konami for greater and more wide-spread advertising of the Suikoden series.

  • For Konami to distribute various Suikoden merchandise outside of Japan, such as: soundtracks, guides and art books.

  • For Konami to launch an official, English language Suikoden Facebook fan page

  • Of course, the main goal I'm sure we all want to see here is a main title Suikoden, i.e. Suikoden VI. However, we feel it is more beneficial to revive and promote the older games of the series before we help Konami push for a brand new main title Suikoden.

"With each point from the check list that is achieved, I urge that we will all do our upmost to promote and advertise the achievement - and Suikoden as a whole.

Together we can make a difference. Together we can bring back Suikoden. And, together, we can give Suikoden the success that it truly deserves."

Konami Europe has announced on 22/01/15 that Suikoden I & II will be available on EU PSN on 4th Feb 2015. Congratulation to all the supporters!

What is Purikura?

Purikura or 'photo sticker' machines are a special type of photo booth that produce photo stickers. Jointly developed by Atlus and Sega, the first Purikura machines were sold in July 1995. Still going strong in Japan they have spread throughout Asia to Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany and even the UK.

How do they work?

Inserting money in the machine money slot, multiple customers can enter the booth and pose for a set number of exposures. Some common options include the ability to alter lighting and backdrops while the newest versions offer features such as cameras from a variety of angles, fans, seats, and blue screen effects, changing hair colour, eye colour and your appearance.

Once the pictures have been taken, the customer selects the pictures that they wish to keep and customise them using a touch screen or pen-sensitive screen. The touch screen gives them options such as shiny stamps, clip art, colourful backdrops, borders, auto text, date stamp and pens that can be superimposed onto the photographs.

Features that can be found in some sticker machines are customising the beauty of the customers such as brightening the pictures, making the eyes sparkle more, changing the hair, bringing a more reddish colour to the lips and fixing any blemishes by having them blurred. Other features include cutting out the original background and replacing it with a different background. Certain backgrounds may be chosen so when the machine prints out the picture, the final sticker will be shiny with sparkles.

Finally, the number and size of the pictures can be chosen within the layout section so you can pick a few big ones, or multiple small ones to divide between friends. Some photo booths also have email capability to text to mobile phones or email. Other photo places have a scanner and laptop at the cashiers desk for customers to scan and copy their original picture before they cut and divide the pictures amongst their group.

Photo sticker booths are particularly popular among young people as an inexpensive form of recreation. The pictures can be kept as souvenirs or traded with friends.

Purikura in London:

There is actually one known Purikura booth located in China Town, Westend, London. Here staff operate the machines for customers and take payment in pounds rather than yen. With three different types:

Pink Machine - you choose a layout and then take photos according to the layout with a plain white background

Red/Blue Machine where you take photos in font of green background to add different backgrounds/foregrounds and draw on top or add fake ats, stars, hearts or text.

Purikura machine - the only Japanese Purikura, where the staff bypasses the automatic settings for you to take 8 automatic photos. You sit in front of a green screen using sofas and monkey bars to hang upside down create the illusion of carrying your friends too. After you choose your four favourite photos to be large, you can then go to one of the editing pods to add your own unique style to the sticker photos.

Do you have any Purikura machines in your area? If so, post them in the comment section below and help out your fellow Purikura adventurers.
