October mcm 2015: Friday

London mcm comic con one of the biggest events in the UK, opened their doors to the public today at 10am. With barriers today controlling people coming in snd out the venue and also to stop unruly behaviour on the grass as has happened in the past.

Upon getting your wristbands you enter the world of advertising including Steve Jobs movie, Jet, The Robot and many more.

This Halloween we have the following companies showcasing their games: Rice Digital, Bandai Namco entertainment, NISA, Koei and riding star games.

Cex returned with their famous tentacle chair aswell as a new edition of fluffy feet encrusted chair with the same competition incentive.

Due to high demand the Yogcast had their own section within the Escorts area (Hall opposite main mcm Hall). Where you could queue up, buy merchendise, get it signed then receive a free fall out mask you could post on twitter to be entered into a competition.

You also had a stall called Monkey Merchandise selling fall out items, an Assassin's Creed stall amongst Insert Coin and turtle tees.

One of my favourite moments was seeing ultimate anime fans gushing over Todd Haberkorn, voice of Natsu from Fairy Tale, Watanuki from Xxxholic and more. This was his first London convention and he was greeting by people dressed as characters from anime he worked in and with related merchendise. It was plain to see the London majority praised him for Fairy Tale as they did with Colleen Clickenbeard who played Erza on the anime.

Build a Bear to stock Pikachu?!

Starting in early 2016, The Pokemon Company and Build-A-Bear Workshop will be teaming up for a partnership bring you everyone's favourite electric rat!

Build-A-Bear Workshop have confirmed the following locations to stock Pikachu: the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia.

So far Polygon states you can decorate your Pikachu plush with a Poke Ball Hoodie, and includes a Pikachu sound chip.

After creating your Pikachu, you’ll be given a special promo TCG playing card as a gift. Also, those who order it online can obtain the limited edition Charizard costume!

Villiany has no Bounds for Mike Pollock (interview)

In tribute to the passing away of acclaimed Japanese voice actor Chikao Ohtsuka earlier this year who voiced Dr Eggman/Robotnik.  The long standing American voice, Mike Pollock came to attend LAGC this year in July.

Dr Eggman/Robotnik is the villain from the Sega game series Sonic which later spun off into various cartoons, animated shows and games to where it’s fame acquired English dubbing for international release. Mike Pollock returns to LAGC, Pollock is an American voice actor who been praised for voicing Doctor Eggman in the dubbed Sonic the Hedgehog series. Despite being cast as long time villain Dr Eggman this has not type cast Pollock in anyway and he has excelled in many other roles. Also playing many well-known characters in anime including Raoul Contesta, Cheren, Drayden, interim narrator in Pokémon, Meat in Ultimate Muscle, Langston Lickatoad in Viva Piñata, Suikyou in Ikki Tousen, General Blanque in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mitsuru Minowa in Magic User's Club and Beast in the motion comic adaptation of Astonishing X-Men. Having featured in over 50 titles and games - currently working on Norse Noir: Loki's Exile, Chapter I.

Nintendo announced Characters for Project Zone 2

Not only am I stoked for this game Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced a few Nintendo characters that will be joining the fearsome roster featured in Tactical-RPG Project X Zone 2. Lucina & Chrom are joining from popular Gameboy/3DS series Fire Emblem Awakening, while Fiora of Xenoblade Chronicles and cyborg KOS-MOS from Bandai Namco's Xenosaga will also be playable.

One Piece: Burning Blood coming to PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe announced recently a new One Piece game called  BURNING BLOOD! The game is due to release in 2016 on PlayStation4, PlayStation Vita and for the first time ever: Xbox One.

I'm really excited about this one as it is developed by the famed Japanese studio Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd; One Piece: Burning Blood is built upon the wacky and rich One Piece universe and will offer a never-seen-before experience thanks to the fast-paced gameplay and unique One Piece elements!

Speaking of which, Logia Devil Fruits and “Haki” can be used to throw massive special moves and take down the fiercest opponents! Stay tuned for more reveals.

Taiwan Excellence Comes To Westfield

One of the most exciting, product design shows is coming to London this autumn; The Taiwan  Excellence Showcase is an interactive, hands on exhibition featuring new and innovative gadgets,  gizmos and gaming technology that are being shown together in the UK for the first time.

The free five day event at The Atrium, Westfield, Stratford, London W12. The event will bring together some 70 brands and over 150 award-winning products that will not  only wow visitors with their ground-breaking design but will also highlight the exceptional quality of  Taiwanese manufacture. Throughout the event visitors get to test out some cutting edge tech design  and also get the chance of winning some of the products on show.

The Opening Ceremony on Thursday 15 October and will be hosted by TV Presenter and Technology  Reporter Lara Lewington. VIP’s including senior executive Gee Shan PhD, Vice Chairman of TAITRA  (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), celebrities and dignitaries from government, trade  and industry will be in attendance. The Showcase will be declared open to the public from 12.30pm.  ‘Only the Young’, the 2014 X Factor finalists, will be providing musical entertainment and will be  performing their new single ‘I Do’. Speaking of the showcase Lara Lewington said “I’m delighted to be the guest host at Taiwan  Excellence and look forward to seeing the range of cutting-edge, world leading technological  products showcasing Taiwanese innovation. This promises to be a very exciting event”.

Alcon 2015

A group up for the Cosplay Auction at Alcon 2015

Every Alcon seems to be getting bigger and bigger by the year, 2015 welcomed an extra 200 person capacity at the De Monteford University Leicester. Using the halls of residency as cheap and convenient accommodating for the attendees. 

The event started Wednesday night where parties and late night activities were set up before the actual event was ready on the Thursday. People came from as far as Denmark to participate in the new Gym Battle initiative by independent group who fought vigorously against any attendee wanting to be a Pokemon Master. Raising over £150 for the charities chosen for Alcon this year Mind and Epilepsy Action. It was  great fun to see so many attendees searching for the gym leaders around the con and getting into the serious Poke-battle modes for laughs and for great prix. Guest this year in attendance included the The Abridgers; Brentalfloss, Masako X, X the dark one, Faulerro Little Karibo, Ellie Monty and Maggie Blue O' Hara (Bulma DBZ, Madison from Cardcaptors and more). Between them we got a lot of Yu Gi Oh, Dragon Ball Z and Cardcaptors merchandise signed for the Charity Auction Gala. With a signed Vegeta canvas from Canime sold for £45!

one of the best panels was Maggie Blue O Hara and Masako X talking about their experiences within voice acting. Getting an agent is the first step and then auditions and a good show reel is the next step. Masako X didn't have to worry about this as he and the Abridgers do it independently themselves. It was great to hear of the differences of working on top pf the Japanese anime or to work alongside the animation being made - having more freedom and working with the whole team.

The Cosplay Auction was a great spectacle to watch seeing so many kind people sell their time for charity - we saw a pair of Panty and Stocking cosplayers (one of which was Jess's Dresses) went from over £170, Second was Baymax who went for £150. Any money made was highly appreciated and together with the money from the Charity Auction Gala about £5,000 was made !

Some other great panels included Anna's S's photography panel, The cosplay courtroom by League of Extraordinary Cosplay and Myself, Working with Worbla with Tabatha Hastie and Late night with Brentalfloss. i also found the late night karaoke happening at the same time as the Ball was brilliant - whoever sang 'and all of that Jazz' you were amazing!

All in all a great get away from the daily norm. Where you can dress as you like and not get judged and meet like minded people and join random games and streetpassing. Find more of my photos here.

Angel's Cave: White Lace Cat Beret

Angel's Cave originally focused on dolly attire and accessories to complex wig threading and face plates since I met them at the Danny Choo Culture night ! When the team is not working on making adorable clothes for these smart dolls.they are now making gorgeous hair accessories for human heads now.

Charlotte has constructed her own pattern for lace cat berets in a variety of colours to match your moggy and stand out in your hair. With moving limbs you can pose them to fit your head and they really look great with any outfit.

As a part time Lolita, I have been experimenting with colors and styles and I took a try at sweet Lolita - Pink isn't really my colour but it really worked with the beret. I have seen these type of hand made and stitched items crop up a lot recently and could be the next big trend in kawaii fashion.

At £5 per beret that's a real bargain and Charlotte can make them in a variety of colours too.

Let's go to the Caribbean: Animekon Review

Last weekend saw the 6^th annual Animekon, the self-proclaimed largest convention in the Caribbean. My friend Damian decided to go along and report on the event. Thousands of attendees, hundreds of cosplayers and… not much to do. 

"Perhaps I’m a little harsh there were numerous gaming tournaments and several booths with everything you’d expect at a con: food, comics, merch but to say you could see everything on offer in less than half an hour wouldn’t be a stretch. 

Also game companies don’t even see the Caribbean as a region, something local gamers know only too well, so don’t expect to see Sony, Microsoft, et al. in attendance showing off upcoming releases. The only gaming available will be past releases you’ll have to pay up front for the privilege of playing.

Special guests this year included Yaya Han and Kamui Cosplay whom were both amazing and had a couple cosplay panels. Other notable guests were Christian Howard of Street Fighter Assassin’s Fist fame, Calen Hoffman a masterful cosplayer in his own right and authors Lucy A. Snyder and Randy Stradley.  Long Island Joe returned, not a featured guest this time around but that didn’t stop him from having an exhibition match with the champion of the Ultra Street Fighter 4 tournament. There was even a panel and booth from the infamous Full Sail University.

Animekon does have some quirks that sets it apart from other conventions I’ve been to. Perhaps the Karaoke competition isn’t that odd but the annual Kamameha competition must be unique. This year there was also a ramen eating competition as well as a push -up competition of all things. Seeing a group of guys, some in cosplay, doing choreographed push-ups is quite a sight. 

The cosplay tournament was also captivating. Barbados being a small island, it’s difficult to acquire some of the materials that are ubiquitous in cosplay in developed countries like worbla, but that doesn’t stop people from getting creative with fabric and cardboard and whatever else they can lay their hands on.

So all in all Animekon was a good way to spend a weekend I would’ve otherwise been home doing nothing."

For a native this isn't much compared to the London Con's he has attended but for me I can't wait to hit the warmth of the sun and different panels and talks by the top guests.
